I blame my spleen.

I don't remember if I mentioned it, but I trained a new guard last Friday.  He's working out well so far, having shown up for work and had no problems.  Looks like things might finally get back to normal for a while.  I think my spleen is to blame for things going sideways.  I'll explain.

I had my spleen removed about a year ago due to an extremely large cyst growing on it.  I was out of work for a month.  When I came back, I discovered that the DVR cameras are hooked to crapped out that previous weekend.  It has taken the company I work at an entire YEAR to get around to fixing the problem.  Granted, we are getting more cameras out of the deal, but still, that is a long time to be without.  There were several issues that could have been addressed had the cameras been working.

Anywho, 2 months after I returned from having a minor organ removed from my body, one of my guards had to quit because he was moving.  We had enough advance notice that my boss had a replacement ready and waiting.  We'll call him Schmandy.  Schmandy was not the sharpest crayon in the box, nor did he have a great work ethic.  Schmandy once missed over a week of work because of car issues.  I can understand missing a day or two, but after that I would have personally begged, borrowed, or paid for a ride rather than miss so much work.

A couple months after Schmandy started working, another of my guards retired due to health issues.  Conveniently, Schmandy had a step son, Schmincent, who needed a job.  Schmincent... had issues.  He had a Barry Kripke speech impediment, and if Schmandy wasn't the sharpest crayon in the box, Schmincent was broken and melted.  At best he was a warm body soaking up hours.

Schmandy was removed from the job site after it was discovered that he took some video of the plant while he was working and posted it to youtube, which is against company policy.  Surprisingly, he wasn't fired, but was placed at a different job site.  This created another vehicular issue, because Schmandy and Schmincent shared the same car.  It came to pass that Schmincent was supposed to work in conflict with a day Schmandy was to start at his new site, and Schmincent had the balls to brag to a fellow guard that he was going to call in sick that day.  Of course I was told about it and in a not so subtle way I told Schminnie that he had better show up.  Long stupid story short but still stupid, Schmincent called out anyways, my boss got involved because I had no one to cover that shift, and a few days later Schminnie quit (without notice) to go back to his part-time job at Burger King.  I later found out that he had thought he was going to get fired, which was not the case.  Miraculously, the guard that had quit due to health issues decided to un-retire, which was a life saver.
Thus began 5 months of (almost) non-stop, 60 hour/7 day work weeks, and my spleen was the catalyst.

Public Service Announcement

If you see an ambulance behind you with flashing lights, pull over to the side of the road.  Same thing with a police car, or a fire truck.  Any kind of emergency vehicle.  The person or people they are going to help might be someone you love, and it might be that every second counts.  Yes, you might miss your turn, but that is nothing compared to the risk to someone's life.  Besides, it's the law in most if not all places.

How would you feel if you read a story where someone's infant baby died because firefighters couldn't get to the scene because traffic wouldn't yield?  I don't know about you, but I would be outraged.  Now how would you feel if you found out that you were one of those people that didn't move over and let them by?  I don't know about you, but I would be devastated.

If there's an emergency vehicle behind you, pull the fuck over and let them by.  They might be going to the same place as you.  They might be trying to save someone you know.
